Phobias are basically an irrational fear. They are also increadibly easy to treat.
We all have to have a certain amount of fear of some things to make sure we stay alive, like fear of heights, snakes, water and so on.
When that fear becomes so severe that it causes irrational behaviour it starts affecting other areas of our life or stops us being able to do things then it is time to actively do something about it.
So many people have phobias or fears of many varied things and some of these phobias occur from actual events. A single event which traumatised you can stay with you emotionally and in fact get worse causing more extreme reactions.
For other phobias, the inital event causing the trauma or the start of the fear is not evident so we have to look for it. We use Time Line Therapy which was discovered by Dr Tad James and this finds the very first event, the root cause of the problem, which when emotionally disconnected will make the phobia/fear disappear. We emotionally disconnect that event by using another technique called the Phobia model which takes you through a series of actions intended to disconnect the emotions from that event.
Then - BANG - the phobia has gone!
There is also another element to this where some people may experience a phobia of a fear or phobia.
For instance, someone who is taking anti depressants for anxiety attacks.
They are so scared of having another anxiety attack that they actually start to have a phobia of it, so any slight sign of one will in fact trigger another anxiety attack.
We treat that like a 2 tier problem and repeat the same process for both problems.
Treatment is one of the more straightforward techniques we use and generally this will only take one 2 hour session, although I always offer another free hour at a later date if the client would like or need it.
